I’ve been working on the first chapter of my novel for a week now, and all I have is 969 words. That is to say, I have 969 words that seem to reveal the world I’m trying to create. And I feel like I’m on the right track, but this is the most challenging writing I’ve ever done. The ideas are whizzing around my head like flies, with an occasional hummingbird, and plenty of swampy land to sink into.
This chapter sets the stage for the entire novel, the “epic novel”. I’ve played around with this chapter for years. It is the Introduction and has become the “epic chapter”. And already I realize this chapter will require a lot of feedback and editing. It’s also clear to me that if I can get past this the story will begin.
Note to self: spend some time researching the process of writing introductions.
